I consider that yes, there still today a strong relationship between the purpose and goals of our US government and the accumulation of wealth. Indeed, if we check history, we have to remind that the founding fathers of the United States clearly stated that the country will be one that respected many rights and freedoms, including the right to own property and to be rich through commitment and hard work.
However, the issue is that the conditions of American Capitalism do not favor all the citizens. One of the consequences of Capitalism is that economic conditions favor rich people that are getting richer. On the other hand, there are many groups in US society that are not favored and resent inequality and can access the same opportunities to grow.
