Eighty percent of the tourists in a group took a bus and the rest took a taxi. The bus fare per person is 40% less than the taxi fare per person. All together they paid $68 for the tour transportation, and the bus fare per person is $3. How many tourists are in the group?

Answer:

Bus = 16 Tourists and Taxi = 4 Tourists

Total = 20 Tourists

Explanation:

According to the Question,

  • Given, 80% of the tourists in a group took a bus and 20% took a taxi. Thus the Ratio of Tourists Travel by Bus toTaxi is 4x:1x.
  • The bus fare per person is 40% less than the taxi fare per person. And Also Given that the bus fare per person is $3 Thus, The Taxi fare per person would be $5.

All together they paid $68 for the tour transportation.

  • 4x × 3 + x × 5 = 68
  • 12x × 5x = 68
  • 17x =68
  • x=4

And, the Ratio of Tourists Travels by Bus toTaxi is 4x:1x . So,the Tourists Travel by Bus to Taxi is 16 and 4 Respectively . Total = 20 Tourists are in the Group.
