There are red, blue, and white buttons in a box. The ratio of the

number of red buttons to the number of white buttons is 4:7.
The ratio of the number of blue buttons to the number of red buttons
is 3:2. There are 280 white buttons. How many buttons are there
altogether?
Please Help i’m very confused!!!

Explanation:

Here, we want to get the total number of buttons

From the question, the ratio of number of red to white buttons is 4:7

mathematically, this mean;

r:w = 4:7 = ?/280

thus;

4/7 = ?/280

7 * ? = 280 * 4

? = (280 * 4)/7

? = 40 * 4 = 160

From here, we can see that the number of white buttons is 160

from the second part of the question,

b:r = 3:2 = ?:160

3/2 = ?/160

2 * ? = 160 * 3

? = 480/2

? = 240

Thus, we have the sum total of the number of buttons as;

240 + 280 + 160 = 680
