Explanation:

No the sample is not random. If the questionnaire would had been send to any five students in a class irrespective of whether they are among the top five, then the sample could be referred as random sample.

The marks of top five students in any grade would give an average value that will be an outlier to the average of marks of all students with in a grade.

Hence, the generalization from this sample would not be valid
