Jeremiah hurried over to his backpack and heaved it onto a large tree stump. He opened it and surveyed everything that he had packed the night before: compass, change of clothes, bug spray, apples, granola, and bottled water. It was all in order. His stomach rumbled. All he had to do now was wait for everyone else to wake up.
