If an envelope + stamps cost $1.10.if the stamps costs $1 more than the envelope.what is the cost of the envelope in cents.

Answer: 1.05

Explanation:

Let x be the envelope

y is stamp (1)

==> x+y= 1.10 ($)

the stamps costs $1 more than the envelope, so

x-y=1 --> x=y+1, instead of wards (1), we get

y+1+y= 1.10 -> 2y+1=1.10

->y= 0.05 -> x= 1.05
