The area of the composite figure

The figure can be divided to 2 shapes

(1) Rectangle: Length = 6ft and Width = 8ft

(2) Trapezoid: Height = 5ft (i.e. 8 - 3), Parallel sides = 9ft and 14ft (i.e. 20 - 6)

The area of the rectangle is:


Area = 6 * 8 = 48

The area of the trapezoid is:


Area = (1)/(2)(9 + 14) * 5


Area = (1)/(2)(23) * 5


Area = 11.5 * 5


Area = 57.5

So, the area of the garden is:


Total = 48 + 57.5


Total = 105.5
