Explanation:

So first of all you want to convert both fractions so that they have a common denominator (30)

-1/6= -5/30

3/10=9/30

Next, you want to picture a number line in your head. Now picture -5/30 on the number line, and move 9/30 steps. Bringing you to 4/30.

How I did that:

9-5 (negative amount)=4 (amount you have after getting rid of the 5 steps that took you to 0)
