There's different tricks for balancing diff chemical equations. For eg, with combustion reactions, I usually balance H and then tackle O2 at the end because it is by itself in reactant side.

Main goal of balancing is to make sure atoms on both side are in equal counts. To ensure this, I usually pick one element and try to balance it and see what effect it has on product side, then I change numbers on product side and see if a different element is affected and then I balance that in reactant side. It sorts of just plays out after that.
