so, that means the friend's garden length is

15m 24cm + 2m 98cm

we can do this in 2 main ways.

1. using the fact that this is a metric system with 1m = 100cm.

15.24m + 2.98m = 18.22m = 18m 22cm

2. using fractions

15 24/100 m + 2 98/100 m =

= (1500 + 24)/100 + (200 + 98)/100 =

= 1524/100 + 298/100 = (1524 + 298)/100 =

= 1822/100 = (1800 + 22)/100 = 18 22/100 m =

= 18m 22cm
