The Great Depression was a worldwide economic downturn caused by the stock market crashing in 1929 it lasted until about 1939.
Around a quarter of the United States workforce were unemployed, those who were lucky enough to keep their job got their wages severely cut. Many people became homeless. Many kids couldn’t go to school since most schools shut down due to lack of funding.
The new deal was a series of programs that promoted financial reforms through federal activism and was enacted by FDR. New Federal agencies attempted to control agricultural production, stabilize wages and prices, and create a vast public works program for the unemployed
