Since Tia shared 8 cookies amongst her and 4 other friends;
Add 4 friends to 1 Tia
4 + 1 = 5

Now, We can write 8 divided by 5 as 8/5.
Now convert the improper fraction to mixed number:
Divide 8 by 5 to the nearest whole number
8/5
= 1 remainder 3
Put the remainder as a fraction over 5 (that’s how mixed fractions are)
= 3/5
Add all results
1 + 3/5
= 1 3/5

Therefore, 1⅗ shows how many cookies each person gets.
