Use the periodic table to determine the number of valence electrons in the element Calcium (Ca). How many electrons will calcium gain or lose when it forms an ionic bond? Explain.

Calcium would lose 2 electrons when forming an ionic bond, so it’s new electron configuration would be 2-8-8. it loses 2 because it’s closer to having a full valence shell by losing the 2
