Explanation:

Cost of one pound of plum = 1.60

Total quantity of plum bought = 1

Weight of each plum = 1/4 pound

If he buys plum of $ 3.80 at the rate of $1.60 per pound, he purchases 2.375 pounds of plum

Weight of one plum = 1/4 pound, thus total number of plum purchased = 9.5

Since 0.5 pound of plum means half plum which is not possible to buy

Hence Sergio's statement is false
