Step 1. Find the volume of the Son’s chest:
(It is a rectangular prism) 30 x 16 x 24 =
11,520 cubic inches

I used the formula length x width x height.

Step 2. Make an equation to solve for the volume of the chest the daughter will have:
24 x 40 x w = 11,520 in2
11,520 because its said that the two chests should be teh same volume.

Step 3. Multiply the two dimensions of the daughters chest and divide it by the volume of the son’s chest:
11, 520/24 x 40 = 12
We divide it because we use the same formula for the volume of the rectangular prism, so to find the width, divide the length x height by the volume (this is proportionality)
