2x + 1 = 3 ( subtract 1 from both sides )

2x = 2 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = 1

Substitute x = 1 into either of the 2 equations for corresponding value of y

Substituting into (1)

y = 4(1) + 3 = 4 + 3 = 7
