Why did the union want to capture atlanta, georgia?.

Answer: Atlanta was used as a center for military operations and as a supply route by the Confederates

Explanation: Taking the supply route would severely hinder and weaken the Confederates, because less supplies would arrive to soldiers and cause them to have lower moral because of this. Lower morale and less supplies means an easier fight for the Union
