You could do this a couple of ways. The first and easiest is to change 12% to a decimal. 12% = 12/100 = 0.12

Add this onto 1.

1 + 0.12 = 1.12

Multiply this number by

12*1.12 = 12(1 +0.12) Remove the brackets

12*1 + 1.44

Haircut + tip = 13.44

Of course, it would be much shorter to do it 12*1.12 = 13.44
