Graphically, this is a very easy question to cheat through. I'll show the easiest way to solve.

First, add the four squares that make up the square in the center of the quadrilateral. Now, notice that the two triangles left on the ends are exactly the same size. So if you put them together, the cover up two more squares. Which gives you 2 + 4 =6.

Or the mathematical way which is to find the area of the square as 2 * 2 = 4

and the area of one triangle as 1/2 * 2 * 1 = 1 ad the other triangle is the same. So add all three 4 + 1 + 1 = 6
