Make y the subject in equation(1)

y=2+x

Substitute y=2+x into equation(2)

x+2+x=3

Group like terms

x+x=3-2

2x=1

Divide both sides by the coefficient of x

2x/2=1/2

x=1/2

Substitute x=1/2 into equation (2)

1/2+y=3

Group like terms

y=3-1/2

y= 6/2 -1/2

y= 5/2

Hence; the values of x and y are 1/2 and 5/2 respectively.
