I do 14 × 12 = 168 so that would be the area if the shape didn't have a cut in the middle sense it does I'll find the area of the cut subtract that from 168 resulting in the area of this figure so...

8 × 7 = 56

168 - 56 = 112 therefore 112 is the area! hope that helps!
