Why was it important to the plebeians to have Roman laws written down?

plebeians took part in all government branches and part of the trubunes. ... it was important to write rome's laws down because the plebeians protested the unfairness of rome's unwritten laws. then the particians agreed to finally write a collection of laws on 12 wooden tablets or tables.
