This seems more like a self question, meaning that everybody has their own way of handling this, but I will answer it,
Personally, if i ever receive a gift that I do not want/need i would try to find some other use for it. An example of this could be donating, DIY-ing, regifting, etc. Example: Let's just say somebody has a ton of baby wipes that have been received at a baby shower (Which is a common item received for such an event) You have so many that you feel like you'll never need anymore,
1. You can never have to many wipes, accidents happen ALL the time.
2. If you seriously feel like you have to many or don't have the space for them all, donate them/re-gift. A good option could be a homeless shelter
3. If you are a makeup wearer, they can be used to wash off the makeup.
There are endless was to handle this situation. This was just my perspective of it.
