2x-3y =8 x+3y=14

Add the two equations together to eliminate y

2x-3y =8

x+3y=14

3x +0y = 22

Divide each side by 3

3x/3 = 22/3

x = 22/3

Then take the second equation and multiply by -2 and add to eliminate x

2x-3y =8

-2x-6y=-28

----------------------

-9y = -20

Divide by -9

-9y/-9 = -20/-9

y = 20/9

x = 22/3 y = 20/9
