a) If twice the son's age in years is added to the father's age, the sum is 70. But twice
the father's age is added to the son's age, the sum is 95, find the present ages of the
father and his son.​

Answer:

Son = 15 and father = 40

Explanation:

Let, the age of son be x and father be y.

According to the question,

2x + y = 70

or. y = 70 - 2x ..................................(1)

Also,

2y + x = 95

or, 2(70 - 2x) + x = 95 (From 1)

or, 140 - 4x + x = 95

or, 45 = 3x

∴ x = 15

Now,

Substituting value of x in (1)

y = 70 - 30 = 40

∴ The present ages of son and father are 15yrs and 40yrs respectively.
