Answer:

Find the area of the outer trapezoid and then subtract the area of the inner trapezoid. The area of the outer trapezoid is 24 square units and the area of the inner trapezoid is 9 square units So the area of the shaded region is 15 square units.

Solution:

A_(outer) = (a+b)(h)/(2) = (2 + 6)(6)/(2) = 8 * 3 = 24

A_(inner) = (a + b)(h)/(2) = (2 + 4)(3)/(2) = 6 * 1.5 = 9

A_(shaded) = A_(outer) - A_(inner) = 24 - 9 = 15
