What was reason for The Battle of Gettysburg?​

The confederates were pushing up towards DC. The battle of Gettysburg decided everything, what are the considers win or whether the union will win. If the Confederates won the battle they would’ve pushed on the DC. If they lost they would not have enough resources or manpower to continue the war it was in or nothing battle
