We use Pythagorean Theorem. They have 2 legs that form a right angle. Since the helicopter is cutting short on distance, it will make a diagnal line to reach from one end to the other. To use Pythagorean Theorem, we follow this formula: A squared + B squared = C squared

Our A is 9 and B is 12. We square these by multiplying them by themselves. 9x9=81 and 12x12=144

144+81=225

The next thing we do is find the square root of 225 to find the distance that the helicopter traveled. √ 225 = 15. Thus, the helicopter traveled 15 miles to the other end of the chase.
