Enter the value of n so that the expression (y + 2) + (3y - 5) is equivalent to (ny- 3)

Explanation:

(y+2) + (3y-5) = (ny-3)

Step 1: Remove the brackets as the terms in brackets are separated by an addition sign.

y + 2 + 3y - 5 = ny - 3

Step 2: Join the like-terms.

4y - 3 = ny - 3

From here, you can either do logical reasoning that n = 4 because lefthand side should be equal to righthand side or you continue by making n subject of the formula which obviously gives you 4 :)

Answer: n = 4

Step-by-step explanation: you combine the like variables which turns it into

(4y - 3)

(4y - 3) is another way of saying ((4 x y) - 3)

So the 4 is turned into n making it (ny - 3)
