In order to find the percentage of a value, you multiply the value by the percent. Think of 100% as a scale of 1 to 0.00, since 100% of something has all of it's value, so 50% would be 0.5

23% of 340 is 78.2 ( 340 * 0.23)

Subtract 340 by 78.2, and you get your net pay, 261.8

Another way to do this is subtract 100% by 23%.

so 1 - 0.23= 0.77, which is how much percent of that pay you get to keep

so 340 * 0.77 = 261.8
