Answer:

y + 4 = 3(x + 5)

Explanation:

The equation of a line in point- slope form is

y - b = m(x - a)

where m is the slope and (a, b) a point on the line

Here m = 3 and (a, b) = (- 5, - 4) , then

y - (- 4) = 3(x - (- 5) ) , that is

y + 4 = 3(x + 5)

Hi there! The point-slope is shown in the picture.

Both x1 and y1 are the ordered pairs or coordinate points. Not to be confused with the x and y, they are just for to form an equation of a line.

As we know, m is defined as slope.

What we have now are:

  • the value of slope (m = 3)
  • (x1, y1) = (-5,-4)
  • Point-Slope equation

Substitute the value of the point and slope in the equation.

\large{y - ( - 4) = 3(x - ( - 5))} \\ \large{y + 4 = 3(x + 5)}

Answer

  • The point-slope form for this question is y+4=3(x+5)
