So, when they say how many times larger 3x10^6 is than 3x10^1, they need you to divide 3x10^6 by 3x10^1.

When doing division and multiplcation with exponents, you subtract and add.

So, we have
(3*10^6)/(3*10^1)

The 3, that doesnt have a exponent on top or bottom, cancels out:

So now we have
(10^6)/(10^1)

Finally, since we are dividing 10^6 by 10^1, we are actually subtracting the exponents:

So we have
10^5

When you distrubute the ^5, you get:

100,000

So this is how many times bigger 3*
10^6 is than 3*
10^1
