x = 0.2

Explanation:

Distribute the 5 to (2 + x) to make it 10 + 5x = 11. You can rewrite it to make it 5x + 10 = 11 to make it easier if you want but you dont have to. Subtract the ten from both sides to make it 5x = 1. Divide both sides by 5 to get 0.2. If you want to double check your answer you can substitute 0.2 in for x in (2 + x)5 = 11 or in 5x + 10 = 11. It doesn't matter which.

I am pretty sure the answer is 3.5.

(2+x)5=11

(2+x)=11/5

(2+x)= 5.5

x= 5.5-2

x= 3.5
