Explanation:

Given equations are -

2x - y = 4 .......(1)

-x + y = 4 ........(2)

Add both equations, we get

2x - y + (-x + y) = 4 + 4

⇒2x - y - x + y = 8

⇒x = 8

Now,

Put the value of x in equation (2), we get

y - 8 = 4

⇒y = 4 + 8

⇒y = 12

∴ we get

x = 8

y = 12
