Tom has some marbles in two bags. In one bag he has 3 yellow, 2 green and 1 red marble. In the other bag he has 3 yellow, 3 green and 3 red marbles. If Tom takes one marble out of each bag, how probable is it that neither one is yellow?

Explanation:

Bag 1 :

Yellow = 3 ; green = 2 ; red = 1

Total = 6

P(not yellow) = (2 +1) / 6 = 3/6 = 1/2

Bag 2 :

Yellow = 3 ; green = 3 ; red = 3

Total = 9

P(not yellow) = (2 +3) / 9 = 6/9 = 2/3

P(neither yellow from the two bags) = 1/2 * 2/3 = 2 /6 = 1/3
