Billy Reid was a 32 year old man who was killed by the British Army in Academy Street in Belfast city centre on May 15th, 1971. He was born on the 1st January 1939 and he was a member of the Belfast Brigade of the Provisional Republican Army. Billy Reid was reported to have shot the first British soldier in the Troubles, Gunner Robert Curtis in the New Lodge on February 6, 1971. He was later killed as he attempted another ambush of British Amy personnel.
