The equation d = 45t + 20 can be used to represent the distance Paul has traveled from work in his car, where d is the distance in miles, and t is the time in hours. Which statement about the equation is true?

The slope is 45, and it shows that Paul has traveled 45 miles.
The slope is 20, and it says his average speed is 20 miles per hour.
The y-intercept is 45, meaning that he has driven for 45 minutes.
The y-intercept is 20, and he started 20 miles from work.

Answer

The y-intercept is 20, and he started 20 miles from work

Explanation:

The question is best done with process of elimination. The slope equation is y=mx +b. We can identify that 45 is the m which is slope. With this information we can erase "the slope is 20" & "y intercept is 20" because those aren't true statements. Now if we pick apart answer number 1, we can see that Paul hasn't traveled 45 miles because we don't know the t (time). If we look at answer number 4, it says that he already started with 20 miles. He has already done this. I hope this wasn't confusing, just comment if you need help.
