Answer:

Area of bigger rectangle = length x breadth = 12 x 9 = 108 square cm

Area of small rectangle = length x breadth = 8 x 5 = 40 square cm

Area of the shaded region = Area of big rectangle - Area of small rectangle

= 108 - 40 = 68 square cm
