Answer:

a) Either
(24)/(9) = (x)/(1) or
(32)/(12) = (x)/(1)

b) x = 2.667

Explanation:

Given - These are two similar triangles.

To find - (a) Which proportion could be used to solve for x?

(b) Now, solve that proportion.

Solution -

Given that,

a.)

The triangle are similar , so corresponding sides proportion is equal

i.e.

(24)/(9) = (32)/(12) = (x)/(1)

So,

we can use any proportion for solving x

Either
(24)/(9) = (x)/(1) or
(32)/(12) = (x)/(1)

b.)

Now,

If we take

(24)/(9) = (x)/(1)

∴ we get

x = 2.667

And

If we take

(32)/(12) = (x)/(1)

∴ we get

x = 2.667

So,

we have from both proportion

x = 2.667
