Jack bought 24 apples at the farm stand. He divided the apples between his brother, his friend, and himself in a ratio of 2:1:3. How many apples did each person receive?

Answer: 8,4, and 12

Explanation:

Given

Jack bought 24 apples and divided them in the ratio of 2:1:3.

Suppose they get the number of apples as
2x,x,3x such that their ratio remains the same


\therefore 2x+x+3x=24\\\Rightarrow 6x=24\\\Rightarrow x=4

So, each person gets


2x=2* 4=8\\x=4\\3x=3* 4=12
