Given: x+3+7(x-5)
Step 1: x+3+7x-5

In which step did Jose make a mistake? What should he have done instead?

Answer:

8x-32

Explanation:

Distribute 7 through the parenthesis

x+3+7(x-5)

=x+3+7x-35

Collect the like terms

x+3+7x-35

=8x+3-35

Calculator the difference

8x+3-35

=8x-32

He didn't followed the parentheses method from the beginning itself.

Hope it helps.
