Explanation:

Area of rectangle = 2.5 x 1 = 2.5

To get area of triangle we must use the altitude theorem to find the height:

let 'x' = altitude (or height)

x/1.5 = 2/x

cross-multiply to get:

x² = 3

x =
√(3)

Area of triangle = 1/2(2.5)(
√(3))

= 1.25
√(3) which is approx 2.12

Total area = 2.5 + 2.12 = 4.62
