{ \cot^(2)x}(1 + \tan^(2)x) \\ = (1)/( \tan^(2)x) (1 + \tan^(2)x)


= (1)/( \tan^(2)x ) + 1


= ( \cos^(2) x )/( \sin^(2)x ) + 1 = ( \cos^(2)x + \sin^(2)x)/( \sin^(2) x )


= (1)/( \sin^(2)x ) = \csc^(2) x
