No, I do not agree with Milton Babbit's idea that modern composers should forget about the audience and retreat to writing in private for themselves and other music professionals. I think composers should for sure create music out of enjoyment and as an escape for themself but on the other hand, I think that since their audience is what got them to where they are now, on such a high pedestal, the composer should give back in some way. What I mean by this is that the composer should take into consideration his fans by producing music not just that he likes but they like too. I'm not saying that the composer can't make the piece their own by putting their own personal flair on it but I think just creating music catered towards themself and their liking is a bit selfish.
