Central America was near the United States of America. The U.S had stationed missiles in Turkey putting the USSR in the strike zone, shall they attack. The Soviet Union stationed missiles and medium ranged nukes in Cuba and cause the Cuban missile crisis, which had the U.S very worried. The United States didn’t want that to happen again.
