In a classroom,1/6,of the students are wearing blue shirts,and 2/3 are wearing white shirts. There are 12 students in the classroom,ow many students are wearing shirts other than blue shirts or white shirts?

Explanation:

Find out the fraction that represents those that are wearing either blue or white. Let x be that fraction

x = 2/3 + 1/6

Change 2/3 and 1/6 to 12ths. because there are 12 students in the class.

2/3 = 2*4 / (4 *O 4) = 8/12

1/6 = 2*1/(2 * 6) = 2 / 12

x = 8/12 + 2/12

x = 10/12 Normally you would reduce this fraction because we are not using the Lowest common Denominator. In this case we just leave it.

There are 12/12 - 10/12 = 2/12 that are missing.

So 2 people are Not wearing either blue or white.
