I have 2 standard, 6-sided dice; one is brown, and the other is black. I roll them both. What is the probability that the sum of the numbers that I roll is less than 4?

Answer:

1/36

Explanation:

Since you have two six-sided die, you have 2 sets of 1-6.

Set 1: 1,2,3,4,5,6

Set 2: 1,2,3,4,5,6

Now, we need to find out how many items in the sets add up to equal a sum less than 4.

1 + 1 = 2

2 + 1 = 3

We can roll a 1 and a 1 with a 1/6 chance each.

We can also roll a 1 and a 2 with a 1/6 chance as well.

So, to get the final probability, we would multiply the two fraction together.

1/6 x 1/6 = 1/36

There is a 1/36 chance that the sum of the numbers you roll will be less than 4.
