because the triangles are similar, all the angles must be the same in both. and the side lengths of one triangle must all have the same scaling factor compared to the other triangle.

the similarity tends is that the angle at E is the same as at B (48 degrees). so, then the angles at C are 60 degrees. that leaves for the angle at D (x) 180 - 60 - 48 = 72

BC (8) is scaled to CE (10) by the factor 10/8 = 5/4

so, y must have the same scaling factor in relation to AB (7.3)

y = 7.3 × 5/4 = 9.125
