What is the z-score for the mean?

Answer: z = 0

This is because the mean is at the very center of the normal distribution. The center is at 0, with positive values on the right and negative values on the left.

Something like z = 1 means we're 1 standard deviation above the mean. As another example, z = -3 means we're 3 standard deviations below the mean.

Z-Score:

The value of the z-score will tell how many standard deviations the person is away from the mean.

If a z-score is equal to 0, then it will be on the mean. So, z-score for the mean is 0.

Formula:

Where,

  • z = standard score
  • x = observed value / raw score
  • μ = mean
  • σ = standard deviation
