  2. Rewrite the middle with those numbers
  3. Factor the first two and last two terms separately

let's try to do the first step

  • ac=10×1=10

to figure out b we two factor of 10 that add up to -3

factor of 10:

  • 1,2,5

likewise

  • -1,-2,-5

as you can see there's no factor that add up to -3 and multiply to give 10

hence,

the expression can't be factored
